PRN is one of the two programs designated as the State of Florida's Impaired Practitioners Programs (the other being the Intervention Project for Nurses). As such, PRN and its Medical Director, Judy Rivenbark, M.D., serve as the Consultant to the Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) on matters relating to practitioner impairment. While working with these agencies, PRN also works closely with the DOH / DBPR Legal Departments in regard to impairment related mitigation factors during disciplinary proceedings.

The Program operates under Florida Statutes, governed by Chapter 455, 456, and each individual Professional Practice Act within the DOH. The scope of PRN includes the following professionals: Doctors of Medicine, Physician Assistants, Doctors of Osteopathy, Pharmacists, Podiatrists, Psychologists, Dentists, Chiropractors, Clinical Social Workers, Marriage/Family Therapists, Mental Health Counselors, Optometrists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Dieticians/Nutritionists, Respiratory Therapists, Acupuncturists, Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists, Massage Therapists, Athletic Trainers, Medical Physicists, Opticians, Hearing Aid Specialists, Nursing Home Administrators, Orthotists, Prosthetists, Licensed Midwives, Electrolysists, and Clinical Laboratory Personnel. As Consultant to the DBPR, PRN's scope of services also encompasses Veterinarians, Harbor Pilots, and Certified Public Accountants.
